10 reasons why to choose my private classes over group classes

Now, I’m not saying private lessons are for everyone! Of course, everybody can benefit from private lessons, but for some people, group classes are satisfying and give the results the students are looking for. But in many cases, it might be an idea to consider taking private classes. Here are 10 reasons why!

  1. Flexibility

We find a time that suits both of us, and it can vary from week to week. If you have to reschedule, that’s no issue as long as you do it at least 24 hours ahead.

  2. Get more out of your time

Life is hectic and there are so many things we want to fill our calendars with. It’s difficult to find time for everything and have time to relax in between. With private classes, you learn more effectively (see the reasons below) and thus spend less time and can do other things with your precious time!

  3. More fun

Not only do you spend less time, I also dare say that you have more fun (at least that’s what my students tell me). Having classes with me should be like having a relaxed and enjoyable chat with someone.

  4. Get more out of your money

Yes, private lessons are more expensive than group classes. Of course! Instead of sharing your teacher’s attention with 10-20 other people, you get my full attention. Do you think group classes are too slow, too speedy, or just uninteresting, and therefore demotivating? Do you want the opportunity to practice more? Then you would probably save money (and of course time) with private lessons. In the end, you tend to get what you pay for.

  5. More personal

As I said, lessons with me should be relaxed and joyful. We get to know each other and I adapt the classes to your needs, wants, interests, and personality. And you are always free to come with feedback and suggestions - we decide together how to work and what to work on.

  6. More practice

As you have probably noticed, Norwegians like to speak English. They have no problem switching to English if you struggle with your Norwegian. They tend to do that a little bit (too?) often. Of course, that’s not doing you a favor and will make your progress slower. Most of my students come to me to get the opportunity to speak more.

  7. Get all your questions answered

It’s YOUR lesson! Go ahead, ask ALL your questions! No questions are stupid. And each of them gets you one step closer to your goal(s).

  8. Skip the nonsense

Why spend time on things you don’t need or want? If you prefer learning in an intuitive way, I will not spend hours on grammar rules with you (or I might make you start loving grammar as much as I do). If you get things quickly, you don’t have to spend unnecessary time on it because your classmates have not yet understood. Because there are no classmates. Obviously.

  9. Your tempo

Whether you find group classes are too slow or you think they are too speedy, private lessons are for you. We follow your tempo, nobody else’s.

  10. A safe space

I offer a safe space where you can make mistakes, progress, and develop your fluency. Getting fluent is like training a muscle. It takes time to get good at speaking and you have to do it regularly to keep that speaking muscle strong (even with your own mother tongue). Activating new vocabulary and sentence structures in the brain so that you don’t have to stop and analyze every sentence you make, takes time and practice! Understanding and actually being able to use the language are two very different skills! You get better and better at it the more you speak. And thus more confident and more likely to continue doing it … Do you get the picture? It’s a virtuous circle you want to get in. :)

Hope to see you in class (online or in person in Oslo)!

Vi snakkes :)
